The Fine Arts program at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School includes lessons in art, music, dance and theater. This year fifth-grade students received a ten-week lesson in Ballroom Dance as a part the Fine Arts program and made possible through a partnership with the Connelly Access Program.
Through the Dancing Classrooms Philly program, students paired up to learn Merengue, Foxtrot, Rhumba, Tango and Swing. Over the course of the ten-week program, fifth-graders received ballroom dancing lessons twice a week from dance instructors specially trained for the program. At the end of the instruction period, the students performed for their school, parents and community.
Students also has the opportunity to explored different aspects of ballroom performance such as custom design and formal wear. They even wrote poetry and journals expressing how they felt about what they were learning. In addition to learning about the fine art of Ballroom Dance, students built confidence and learned the invaluable lesson of teamwork!
